Understanding Star Wars through Anime....
Understanding Star Wars through Anime....
I finally got to see the new Clone Wars computer animated film, which just opened here. One of the minor agonies of being a Star Wars fan in Japan is having to wait an extra long time for films to open, because George Lucas likes Japan and always wants to personally be here for any of his film releases. Whenever a new Star Wars film comes out, my son and I pick through it to see what character names were obviously inspired by Japanese words, like Count Dooku's name from doku meaning poison, or the obi in Obi-Wan meaning a kimono belt.

Star Wars: Battlefront for the Nintendo Wii?
According to MyWii.com, the IGN.com podcast revealed Free Radical will be developing a Wii version of Star Wars Battlefront. At this point it’s unknown if it will be Battlefront 3 or just a spin-off of the series designed for the Wii, such as the case with Renegade Squadron for the PSP, but Amazon had a listing a few months ago for Battlefront III which was slated for 2009, by Free Radical, with the Wii as one of the consoles. That means the Battlefront series could be going to the Wii along with having versions for 360 and PS3 and other systems, not just the Wii.

What is it like releasing a SW novel?
The Force Unleashed novel author Sean Williams recently updated his blog with an interesting question: What is it like releasing a Star Wars novel? Well, here’s an excerpt of what he thinks about that:
“Fun: Star Wars is popular with the kids. They come to the launches. (See the photo below, taken in Malibu last week.) Maybe they’re less there for the book than for the costumers, but who wouldn’t want to be part of that anyway? Who of our generation–those most likely to be writing Star Wars novels today–doesn’t remember being a kid when Episode IV first hit the screen and wishing they could experience some of that magic for themselves? That, perhaps, is the ultimate buzz. You may not be Darth Vader, and you may not have the cool costume, but by god you’ve written dialogue for him and you’ve lived for a while in his head. If that doesn’t fall under the definition of “fun” (perhaps “terrifying” too) then what does? “
You can read all of his thoughts on releasing a SW novel here. Enjoy!

Top 9 'Badass' Women of Star Wars

Star Wars isn’t just about the lads. Check out this list from Bettie Magazine of the female characters they think not only make the grade, but can hold their own in a fight. I love that they included the newest Jedi apprentice Ahsoka, as well as a few Expanded Universe gals — but why no Ackmena? Sheesh.
